Full-bodied with a deep ruby red colour, soft oak and grape tannins - complex wine. Red fruti, plum and banana. More earthy flavours after 5 years in the bottle. Enjoy with red meat or spicy Asian style dishes.
Excellent on its own or with heart-warming roast lamb, oxtail, Irish stew, coq au vin, red meat steak, venison and mature cheese
Produced from intensely concentrated shiraz grapes, Pumphouse Shiraz exhibites a wonderful velvety depth. Black cherry and mulberry otes give way to hints of aniseed and vanilla, which are derived from maturation in small French - and just a few American - barriques.
The Pumphouse, located high up on the Backwsberg property, is a humble concrete structure which plays an imperative role in day-to-day activities. The building epitomises Backsberg's approach to winemaking, unassuming but extraordinary.
One afternoon, at harvest time, my mischievous son Jason and his friend Justin let the goats out of their tower and sent them for a walkabout amongst the vines. As in the legend of the Yemeni goat herder, whose roaming flock first discovered the joys of coffee beans, our goats picked out the best and tastiest fruit. Their choice serves as our inspiration for this wine, blended from juicy, full flavoured varietals with a bouquet of red fruit and suble spice. Goats do Roam will bring joy to any occasion.
