Our Mate is a sticky, dark brown paste with a distinctive, powerful flavour, which is extremely salty and savoury with umami qualities, somewhat comparable to soy sauce, made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. It is similar to the Australian Vegemite. Our Mate, formerly known as "Marmite", a British version produced in the United Kingdom and South Africa, has a noticeably different taste from the product manufactured in New Zealand, owned by Sanitarium who obtained sole rights to distribute the product in New Zealand and Australia.
Enjoy a little taste of yesterday today with Lyle's Golden Syrup. Its unmistakable flavour is delicious on porridge and pancakes and great in flapjacks, sticky puddings, cakes and cookies. Lyl's Golden Syrup is surprisingly tasty in savoury dishes too. Golden Syrup was invented in 1883 by Scottish businessman Abram Lyle, when he discovered that a byproduct of the sugar cane refined at his factory in Plaistow, East London, could be made into a delicious spread and sweetener for cooking. First sold to Lyle's employees and local customers in wooden casks, the iconic green and gold tins that Lyle's golden syrup is sold in today were introduced in 1885.
High in Omega 3 fatty acids. Fish are high in first class proteins and in some cases as a source of oils. Oily fish such as pilchards, mackerel and salmon store most of their oil within the muscular flesh. It's important to have some fat in our diet because fat helps the body absorb some vitamins, it's a good source of energy and a source of the essential fatty acids that hte body can't make itself. Omega 3's are specific polyunsaturated fats with beneficial Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenic acid (DHA). These fatty acids have been shown to help protect against coronary heart disease. Glenryck brand Pilchards are sourced from a number of different places, amongst others, South Africa and Namibia, where the fish are caught from the South Atlantic Ocean.
