Full-bodied, deep ruby red colour. An elegant classic style wine with black currant, red berry and cassis flavours. Good with meat dishes.
Our emblem of a Pinotage vine leaf shows the distinctive tooth-shaped gap between the first two lobes. Winemaker Beyers Truter, world renowned for his Pinotage wines, was named International Winemaker of the Year at the 1991 International Wine and Spirit Competition held in London. Pinotage is unique to South Africa. It was created in Stellenbosch by cross-pollinating Pinot Noir and Hermitage (Cinsaut) cultivars. The grapes derive from unirrigated bush vines of 20 - 40 years old in the famous Stellenbosch wine region. Full bodied and complex, this wine embodies the best features of Pinotage. The blackberry and cassis flavours are well balanced with the subtle wood maturation characer. It can be enjoyed now, but the smooth richness will develop even further for up to five years. Ideal with venison, red meat, curries and spicy foods.
The Painted Wolf is also known as the African Wild Dog or Painted Dog - a highly social animal, each with its own ornate markings. The den is at the heart of the pack, a place where Painted Wolves relax and bond. The Den Cabernet Sauvignon is classy, full-bodied and balanced - a social win to enjoy with family, friends and good food.
As you "paint your palate" with this wine you are making a contribution to the conservation of this rare and endangered animal.
Matured in small French oak barrels for 12 months. Situated in Stellenbosch, the heart of South Africa's wine industry, lies the family cellar of Stellenrust. Here time honoured traditions and select wines have led to the family motto: "Where excellence meets winemaking".
